LEGISLATION IN NEW YORK

Our Legislation Tracker

The Huddle's 2024 Legislation Tracker is a spreadsheet that lists important New York and federal bills. It has links to the bill, its current status, and bill sponsors and cosponsors. You will also find a page with links to useful websites.

The lists are updated as bills are introduced, move through

legislative committees, and are voted on by each chamber.

Note: The lists do not include all bills endorsed by progressive

groups nor does Inclusion of a bill  constitute an endorsement

by the Bethlehem Morning Voice Huddle.

Check out the Times Union 2024 New York Bill Tracker. Use this tool to monitor key bills as they move through the state Legislature. It covers more issues than the Huddle's tracker, but is less comprehensive than our priority issues.

How a Bill Becomes a Law summarizes the steps in the NY Senate from where the idea for a bill originates to how it makes its way to the senate floor. This also tells you where the public and advocacy groups can have input into the content of a law.

About the New York state budget process

New York State’s budget process uses an executive budget model. Under this system, the Executive is responsible for developing and preparing a comprehensive, balanced budget proposal, which the Legislature modifies and enacts into law. LEARN MORE HERE.
